Blackheads
A blackhead is oxidized sebum sitting in an open pore. The dark color comes from oxidation rather than dirt, which is why scrubbing does very little and why beta hydroxy acid does a great deal, since it is oil-soluble and works inside the pore itself.
At-home products selected for blackheads follow that mechanism. Salicylic exfoliation limits new formation and clears what is already there, hydrocolloid patches handle the ones that have come to a head, and breathable base makeup covers without occluding.
Our team of skincare experts selects every product on this page for blackheads and surface congestion. Virtual consultations are available for anyone extracting at home and making it worse.
